CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM 6B STAFF ORIGINATOR: Diane Hankee, City Engineer MEETING DATE: April 27, 2020 TOPIC: Resolution No. 20-39, Accepting Quotes and Awarding a Construction Contract, 2020 City Hall Parking Lot Fog Seal Project VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 Vote Required INTRODUCTION Staff is requesting authorization to accept quotes and award the construction contract for the 2020 City Hall Parking Lot Fog Seal Project. BACKGROUND On January 27, 2020 the City Council ordered the project, approved the plans and specifications and authorize the ad for bid for the City hall parking lot maintenance project. The project includes crack sealing, fog sealing and striping of the paved surfaces at the facility. Fog sealing typically lasts about 5-10 years. It is then recommended to complete a mill and overlay of the parking lot. Fog sealing requires 4 hours to cure without traffic. The project is required to be completed on a Saturday when access to the building is minimal. We will coordinate with the police department regarding access to their facilities. Marshan Lane may need to be used for this duration. Quotes were received for the above-referenced project on April 21, 2020. CONTRACTOR TOTAL QUOTE Asphalt Surface Technologies Corporation $19,842.50 Allied Blacktop Company $20,071.75 Pearson Brothers, Inc. Did not quote. Asphalt Surface Technologies Corporation submitted the low quote in the amount of $19,842.50. Staff recommends awarding the project to Asphalt Surface Technologies Corporation. Funding for the project is planned through the Pavement Management Fund. The project cannot commence until after June 30, 2020 due the curb repair project on Town Center Parkway. The completion date for this project is September 14, 2020. RECOMMENDATION
