<br />Communications Coordinator <br /> <br />It has become increasingly evident that City staff does not have the ability to consistently <br />provide timely and up-to-date communication to residents, businesses, and the general <br />public via social media and the website. Staff is doing the best they can with the resources <br />they have, but regularly receive feedback about the lack of up-to-date information, and <br />desire for a greater social media presence. <br /> <br />Staff is requesting the Council approve hiring of a part-time Communications Coordinator <br />for the 2021 budget year. The addition of a part-time Communications Coordinator <br />position can be achieved without an impact to the general fund budget ($40,000 annual <br />transfer from the Cable TV/Communications fund). Staff is expecting to realize savings <br />to the general fund if newsletter design can be brought in-house. <br /> <br />Recreation Department <br /> <br />In April 2020, the Recreation Supervisor and PT Office Specialist positions were <br />eliminated due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All Spring, Summer, and Fall Recreation <br />programming and activities were cancelled. As we prepare the 2021 budget, staff has <br />identified three potential scenarios for the Recreation Department: <br />• Continue to suspend all Recreation programs indefinitely. This would include all <br />special events, including Blue Heron Days. The Public Services Department <br />would coordinate basic services including picnic shelter reservations and <br />activities held at the senior center. <br />• Create a .50 FTE Special Events Coordinator position. This position would focus <br />on various special events (Winter Festival, Family Corn Roast, Spring Fling, <br />Gobbler Games, Secret Holiday Shop, Little Goblins Party, Snow Day, Rockin’ <br />In The Park), and Blue Heron Days.
