ONE VISION. ONE MISSION. LINO LAKES PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT.

Lino Lakes Public
Safety Department
Memo

DATE: November 23, 2020

TO: Hannah Lynch, Finance Director

FROM: John Swenson, Public Safety Director

RE: Public Safety Fleet

During the Council Work Session on November 2, 2020 members of the City Council
requested additional information on the Public Safety fleet.
Vehicle Washes:
Currently the City staff manually wash vehicles but staff has no equipment to wash the
undercarriage of vehicles.
Staff has received pricing information from Lakes 1 Stop, Kwik Trip and Holiday Gas
Station. Holiday Gas Station is lowest priced option that would provide touch-less
washes with under-carriage wash at $5.50. Staff recommends establishing a contract
with Holiday for 900 public safety vehicle washes ($4,950). This would afford weekly
vehicle washes during the winter months (November through March) and bi-weekly
during non-winter months (April through October).
Please note that no fire apparatus will be washed through this contract because of the
large vehicle size and exposed equipment.
Chevrolet Tahoe:
Currently the primary platform for public safety vehicles is the Ford Police SUV (Ford
Explorer frame). In 2021 we budgeted $50,000 per police vehicle and $45,000 per fire
vehicle. This pricing includes purchase of the vehicle, public safety build-out, and
vehicle graphics.
If we transition to a 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe for public safety vehicles, staff recommends
budgeting $56,000. This pricing includes purchase of the vehicle, public safety build-out,
and vehicle graphics.
