Polling Locations and Redistricting Update — City Clerk Bartell updated the <br /> 16 counci on : <br /> 17 - the City ' s responsibility to designate polling locations for 2022 (prior to the end of <br /> 18 2021 ) ; <br /> 19 - the staff recommendation to change one polling location (remove Rice Lake <br /> 20 Elementary and initiate use of Lino Lakes Fire Station No . 2 ) ; <br /> 21 - the staff recommendation to use the fire station for Precinct Six voters and Living <br /> 22 Waters Church for Precinct Seven voters ; <br /> 23 - redistricting will occur in 2022 , prior to fall elections ; <br /> 24 - cities will be allowed to amend their designated polling locations in 2022 ; <br /> 25 - the City may have to amend precinct lines based on redistricting changes , or may <br /> 26 want to take the opportunity to amend precinct lines ( i . e . for voter convenience , <br /> 27 populations shifts ) . <br /> 28 Councilmember Lyden remarked that the upside of using school facilities is that people <br /> 29 are very familiar with them ( because their children are or have been there ) . <br /> 30 Mayor Rafferty recalled that there were concerns in the past about how the fire station <br /> 31 could accommodate voting as it wasn ' t designed for that purpose . Director Swenson <br /> 32 explained that there are security requirements that must be met by public safety staff. <br /> 33 Administrator Cotton added that staff has met at the building and she feels that plans can <br /> 34 be developed and implemented that make the facility usable for voting . The council <br /> 35 heard about the necessity to plan for parking and for operations should a large public <br /> 36 safety event occur . <br /> 37 Councilmember Stoesz asked about other changes to polling locations or precincts that <br /> 38 could be sensible , such as combining two smaller precincts . City Clerk Bartell suggested <br /> 39 that it would make the most sense for the council to look at more changes after <br /> 40 redistricting implications are clear . <br /> 1 <br />
