WS — Item 5
WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
Work Session Item No. 5
Date: 8/l/2022
To: City Council
From: Lisa Lamey, Activity Center Manager
Re: Rookery Update
Background
In an effort to acquire more family memberships and increase the use of the child watch
services, staff is requesting Council approval to include child watch as part of The
Rookery Activity Center membership. In addition, allow non-members to use the service
at a charge of $3.00 per child/visit, up to 2.5 hours.
Currently, only members are allowed to use the child care services, the children are not
required to be a member, and the cost is an additional $3.00 per child per visit each time
they attend child watch. Usage of the Child Watch service has been very low since
opening The Rookery Activity Center.
Feedback has been that the cost is too expensive, especially if they have multiple children
and it is included in most other area fitness centers. Non-members, daily drop -in users,
and multi -visit pass holders have expressed interest in using Child Watch, but are not
eligible since they are considered non-members.
By adding Child Watch as part of the membership, we would require the children to be
on a membership to use the service for free. We anticipate an increase in family and dual
memberships as direct result. Furthermore, we generate additional revenue by allowing
non-member to use Child Watch for an additional cost while the adult is using the
facility.
Staff will be present to answer any questions and provide a short Rookery update.
Requested Council Direction
Staff is requesting Council approval to move forward with including child watch services
as part of the Rookery Activity Membership and allowing non-members to pay $3.00 per
child/visit to use Child Watch.
