WS — Item 9 <br />WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />Work Session Item <br />Date: August 1, 2022 <br />To: City Council <br />From: John Swenson, Public Safety Director <br />Re: Replacement of Water Tenders <br />Backjround <br />During the May 2, 2022 Work Session, staff presented information on old Al I failure to <br />pass annual inspection and provided options to address the loss of this piece of fire <br />apparatus. Council provided direction to staff to purchase a used piece of apparatus to fill <br />the community need that AI I had provided and further directed staff to develop <br />specifications for the replacement of the water Tenders (T 1 & T2 currently in the fleet). <br />Deputy Director Dan L'Allier impaneled a committee comprised of fire staff to develop <br />specifications for new fire apparatus to replace T 1 & T2. The committee was requested <br />to create a specification document that addressed community needs and is compliant with <br />Insurance Services Office (ISO) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) <br />requirements. <br />Attached is to this staff report is a memo dated July 25, 2022 from Deputy Director Dan <br />L'Allier with further details on the committee works and a recommendation. <br />If Council direction is to move forward with Deputy Director L'Allier's and committees <br />recommendation, staff would recommend moving forwarding with this purchase through <br />our membership in the Sourcewell. <br />Sourcewell is a public corporation serving as municipal contracting agency for <br />government and education agencies. Sourcewell services member agencies under the <br />legislative authority established and granted by Minnesota Statute 123A.21. <br />The City has purchased equipment through Sourcewell Cooperative since 2010 totaling <br />$531,000. <br />Staff is seeking Council direction. <br />Attachments <br />Deputy Director L'Allier memo dated July 25, 2022 <br />Specification Document 1 <br />
