CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM SA
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Justin Williams, Public Works Superintendent
MEETING DATE; August 8, 2022
TOPIC; Consider Approval %J Resolution No. 22-86, Approving Change
Order No. 2, Water Tower No. 2 Rehabilitation Project, Justin
Williams
VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5
INTRODUCTION
Staff is requesting City Council approval of Change Order No. 2 for the Water Tower No. 2
Rehabilitation Project.
BACKGROUND
On February 14, 2022, the City Council awarded the bid for the Water Tower No. 2
Rehabilitation Project to Classic Protective Coatings, Inc. in the amount of $1,188,857,
Included in the bid was a complete blast and removal of all coatings on the tank.
A pre -tank inspection by KLM called out many of the interior coatings to be in need of repair.
The areas identified were primarily in the areas that sweat or are damp for much of the life of
the coating. Other coated areas that remain relatively dry have a much better paint condition
and adhesion to the metal. These areas are not in need of extensive sandblasting in preparation
for the new coating that will be applied.
Classic Protective Coatings is offering a credit of $133,400 to reduce the level of preparation in
these areas to a sweep blast which will rough up the existing coatings and prepare it for its new
coating.
Other findings during the sandblasting process have been: broken electrical conduit lines
($14,590), a service door that has significant rusting in the frame and door ($9,120), and the
elimination of a fill pipe that is no longer used ($1,050). The remainder of the credit amounts to
$108,640.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff
is recommendi
ng approval of Resolution No. 22-86 for Change Order No. 2 for the Water
Tower No. 2 Rehabilitation Project.
ATTACHMENTS
1.
