DATE: October 5, 2022 TO: Park Board Members FROM: Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director RE: Woods of Baldwin Lake Park Update A tremendous amount of work has been completed over the past few weeks: • Contractor cleared out underbrush, buckthorn, and several dead trees. Ash and cottonwood trees were also removed. • Park area was graded and native grasses were planted along the south side of the park that will be 2-3’ in height. • Concrete curbing for the playground area has been installed. The playground equipment is scheduled to be installed the week of October 3 by Parks Department employees and a certified playground installer. • The footings for the open-air shelter are scheduled to be installed the week of October 3, with the shelter being installed by the end of October. • The base of the ½ court basketball court has been installed. Anticipate paving and painting the court in the Spring. • Adjacent homeowners expressed that they were not in favor of a split rail fence getting installed along the southern park boundary. Rather, we will be designing a landscape plan that will provide additional buffering. We plan on ordering the plant material this Winter with parks department staff planting in the Spring, 2023. • The existing paved trail has been removed, and new base has been installed. We are expecting that the trails will be paved yet this Fall, but we need to wait until the playground equipment and park shelter are installed.
