CITY COUNCIL <br />PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD <br />STAFF REPORT <br />Date: October 19, 2022 <br />To: City Council and Planning and Zoning Board <br />From: Michael Grochala, Community Development Director <br />Re: Gateway Design <br />Background <br />The City's 2040 Comprehensive Plan identifies a number of "Gateways" in the community. The <br />development of design guidelines for these locations is identified as a short term action (1-5 <br />years) in the plan. <br />Following recommendation of the Planning & Zoning Board, the City Council supported the <br />development of signage and streetscape design guidelines for the gateway areas. WSB and <br />Associates have been retained to assist with that process. <br />These areas include: <br />• Lake Drive and 35W <br />• Sunset Avenue and Main Street — Key western gateway into city — Robinson Farms being <br />considered for development. County planning intersection improvements for 2024. <br />• Lake Drive and Main Street — principal crossroad in City — NW corner being considered <br />for redevelopment. <br />• Main Street and 35E — Developing commercial center — NE Master Plan underway <br />(including border with Hugo). <br />• County Road J and 35E — Southeastern Gateway to City — Planning underway for <br />reconstruction of bridge and CRJ corridor from Centerville Road to Otter Lake Road. <br />Possible 2026 project. <br />• County Road J and Hodgson Road — Southern Gateway — Lyngblomsten redevelopment <br />in northwest corner — Design for reconstruction of CRJ and Hodgson in progress. <br />Construction planned for 2023 or 2024. <br />The process will include final design for streetscape improvements for incorporation with the <br />County Road J and Hodgson Road improvements. <br />Attachments <br />1.
