WS – Item 10

WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
Work Session Item No. 10

Date: November 7, 2022

To: City Council

From: Lisa Lamey, Rookery Activity Center Manager

Re: Rookery Mural Design Concepts

Background

Over the past 9 months, The Rookery staff has worked to establish furnishings, paint
colors, and design elements to provide an updated and welcoming environment within
The Rookery Activity Center.

The Rookery Activity Center was awarded funding from the St. Paul Area Association of
Realtors - Key Communities program, thanks to Council Member Stoesz’s application.
The Key Communities program aims to bring together local, state and national Realtor®
programs and resources to enhance the partnership between Realtors® and local
communities. This program could allow for the Rookery to meet key realtors in the
community, expose them to the Rookery and in turn the Realtors can use the Rookery
Activity as a great selling point for any homes that are selling in the surrounding
communities. We initially identified that a great use of this funding could go towards an
art piece that would tell the story of The Rookery.

Since then Rookery staff has worked with Visual Communications, the design company
that provided the internal signage in The Rookery, to create some designs that take into
consideration the current brand palette, ideas, and talking points presented from Game
Day Sports about the Rookery brand.

Staff will present 3 designs for feedback and discussion. The mural would be placed on
the wall just to the south of the entry/exit doors of the Rookery.

Requested Council Direction

Staff is requesting feedback on the designs. Staff recommends option #2 to as the design
to place on the entry wall as an added aesthetic design element to the Rookery.

Attachments

Design Options from Visual Communications
