CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Meg Sawyer, Human Resources and Communications Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: February 13, 2023 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider Appointment of Police Officer <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Spencer Baldwin to a vacant Police <br />Officer position in the Public Safety Department. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />There are currently three vacant Police Officer positions within the Public Safety Department. <br />At this time, staff has provided a conditional offer, and is recommending the approval of <br />Spencer Baldwin for one of those positions. <br /> <br />Baldwin earned an Associate of Applied Sciences in Law Enforcement degree from Alexandria <br />Technical and Community College. He currently works as a correctional officer for the <br />Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office. He has met all POST mandates. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $36.66, which is the Starting Step of the six step union wage <br />schedule. <br /> <br />With the Council’s approval, Simon would start in the position of Police Officer on March 6, <br />2023. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Please approve the appointment of Spencer Baldwin for the Police Officer position. <br /> <br /> <br />
