<br />WS – Item 5 <br />WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT <br />Work Session Item No. 5 <br /> <br /> <br />Date: March 6, 2023 <br /> <br />To: City Council <br /> <br />From: Lisa Lamey, Activity Center Manager <br /> <br />Re: Rookery Summer Camp Staffing <br /> <br /> <br />Background <br /> <br />To fill a need in the community of summer child care opportunities and increase the <br />exposure to The Rookery Activity Center, staff will be adding Summer Camp <br />programming to The Rookery for the summer of 2023. <br /> <br />The Rookery’s summer kid’s camp will include an eight week summer program running <br />Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 3:30pm. Staff will be offering an option for before and after <br />care from 7:00am – 9:00am and 3:30pm - 5:30pm. The camp will feature a different <br />theme each week. <br /> <br />To operate the camp effectively and safely, the City is looking to hire two new positions - <br />Summer Camp Coordinator and Summer Camp Counselor. Staff is looking to add 2 <br />seasonal coordinators and up to 20 seasonal counselors. <br /> <br />Summer Camp Coordinator – Seasonal Position <br />The Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for organizing/creating activities and <br />camp schedules, assisting in creating staff schedules, prepping for field trips, and <br />monitoring camp staff. This position will oversee the well-being and safety of all children <br />at the Rookery Activity Center Summer Camp. <br />Wage: $16.00-$21.00/hour <br />Summer Camp Counselor – Seasonal Position <br />The Summer Camp Counselor plans, leads, and implements camp programs for children <br />enrolled in the Rookery Activity Center Summer Camp program. Provides high-quality <br />educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp <br />participants. Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill <br />achievement, and general well-being. <br />Wage: $13.00 - $16.00/hour <br /> <br />The creation of these positions has no budget impact. The positions will be funded from <br />the 2023 Adopted Rookery Budget. <br />
