Cancer Screening Physical
DESCRIPTION
The vendor will play a vital role to help prevent the disturbingly high incidences of cancer
and heart disease in Lino Lakes firefighters. The Lino Lakes firefighters have two-and-a-half
times the risk of developing cancer and acute coronary syndromes than other Minnesotans.
Firefighters face chronic exposure to heat, smoke, diesel exhaust, and toxic flame
retardants. These carcinogenic chemicals are absorbed, inhaled, and ingested into the
firefighters’ skin, airways, and gastrointestinal system at building fires, car fires, dumpster
fires, even kitchen fires. Carcinogens also accumulate on and inside the firefighters’
protective bunker gear and in their fire stations. These carcinogen exposures help account
for the very alarming discovery that with our small agency cancer has found its way to our
firefighters. We have experienced one of our staff requiring to be disabled and retired out
because of cancer. As an industry, firefighters have elevated rates of cancers of the brain,
lungs, colon, prostate, bladder, kidney, and skin. Every firefighter will obtain a thorough and
confidential firefighter physical exam and undergo the screening tests listed below for
prevention and early detection of these specific cancers annually. Annual exams shall cover
the following: Blood pressure, pulse ox, respiratory rate, temperature, oxygen saturation,
weight and body-fat index, thorough skin exam, eye exam and hearing testing, oral exam,
heart and lung exam, abdominal and testicular exam, prostate and rectal exam, fecal occult
blood testing, pelvic and pap for females, and vascular and neurological exams. Annual
testing shall cover the following: Comprehensive metabolic and chemistry panel, liver
function tests, hepatitis profile, complete blood count, thyroid panel, hemoglobin A1c,
fasting lipid profile and blood glucose, urinalysis and urine biomarkers, EKG, PSA,
pulmonary function, colonoscopy, exercise stress echocardiogram test, and mammograms.
QUANTITY UNIT PRICE TOTAL
38 $210.00 $7,980.00
BUDGET CLASS
Contractual
