1
CITY COUNCIL
WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
ITEM NO. 5
STAFF ORGINATOR: Michael Grochala, Community Development Director
DATE OF WORK SESSION: October 2, 2023
TOPIC: Gateway Design
______________________________________________________________________________
BACKGROUND
The City Council authorized preparation of Gateway Design guidelines for key entrances into
the City and streetscape plans for the Hodgson Road/CR J intersection improvements. WSB
has completed a draft design manual and preliminary plans for the intersection. Jordan
Gedrose, from WSB, will be present to walk through the draft Gateway Guidelines and
proposed streetscape improvements.
Initial estimates of the streetscape components for the Hodgson/CRJ improvements are
approximately $500,000 of which entry monument signs are approximately $130,000. To stay
within budget constraints we will need to cut this back or phase in some of the proposed
improvements. We are also anticipating some modifications based on staff and council
comments.
Staff will be prepared to discuss optional elements that could be removed to reduce costs as
well discuss different entry monument options.
REQUESTED COUNCIL DIRECTION
Staff is requesting City Council direction on proposed design elements and comments on the
Gateway Guidelines.
ATTACHMENTS
1.Draft Gateway Design Guidelines
2.Draft 49/J Streetscape plans
