2 <br /> <br />3. Areas designated as open space or future expansion areas properly planted and <br />maintained with native grasses or wild flowers indigenous to Minnesota. Seed mixture shall be <br />approved by the City. <br /> <br />4. Use of mulch materials such as bark, wood chips, and decorative rock in support <br />of shrubs and foundation plantings. <br /> <br />5. Natural Prairie Restoration Areas. Native grasses and wild flowers indigenous to <br />Minnesota, planted and maintained on any occupied lot or parcel of land, setback a minimum of <br />20 feet from the front lot line and/or side lot line abutting a public street, as part of a garden or <br />landscape treatment. <br /> <br />6. Synthetic Grass. <br /> <br />a. Product. <br />i. Synthetic grass shall consist of green lifelike individual blades of grass <br />that emulate natural grass in look and color. <br />ii. Synthetic grass shall be considered a pervious material when used in <br />landscaped areas at grade as a replacement for natural sod when installed <br />correctly. <br />iii. Products that are not perforated or otherwise manufactured for drainage <br />such as putting greens will be considered impervious. <br />iv. Synthetic Grass shall be lead free, and pass pill flammability test. <br />v. Minimum Pile Weight 45 OZ. <br />vi. Minimum Pile Height 7/8". <br />b. Warranty. <br />i. Synthetic Grass warranty shall have a minimum eight-year manufacturer's <br />warranty protecting against color fading and decrease in pile height. <br />ii. The use of indoor/outdoor carpeting shall be prohibited. <br />c. Installation. <br />i. Synthetic Grass shall be properly anchored to ensure that the turf will <br />withstand the effects of wind. <br />ii. All seams shall be glued, and the edges shall be trimmed to fit against all <br />regular and irregular edges to resemble a natural look. <br />iii. Synthetic Grass should not be installed over grass or other plants. <br />iv. Synthetic Grass shall also not be installed over dirt that is not covered by a <br />minimum of 3-inch sub-base layer of aggregate, such as compacted free <br />draining gravel or crushed stone or similar product designed specifically <br />for synthetic grass sub-base. <br />v. Class V and 3/8" minus is not permitted. <br />vi. Proper grading, compaction, and drainage shall be provided for all <br />synthetic grass installations to prevent excessive run-off or pooling of <br />water and have a minimum permeability of 30 inches per square yard. <br />vii. Any current drainage issues needs to be addressed before installing <br />synthetic grass.
