CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 6C <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Michael Grochala <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: February 26, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution 18-17, Authorize the Preparation of Plans <br />and Specifications, 2018 Trunk Watermain Project <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />Staff is requesting City Council consideration to authorize the Preparation of Plans and <br />Specifications for the 2018 Trunk Watermain Project. <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The 2030 Comprehensive Plan identifies trunk watermain improvements to strengthen the City’s <br />municipal water system. An analysis of the City’s Water Supply Plan has identified an area in <br />need of trunk watermain improvements. Trunk watermain improvement projects are based on <br />safety and functionality needs, input from Public Works, and feasibility of locations. The proposed <br />improvement project will create a looped water system that will provide residents with high quality <br />water supply and adequate pressure for fire demand. <br /> <br />The proposed project includes the following trunk water main improvements: <br /> <br />1. The installation of approximately 1,100 feet of 12-inch diameter trunk watermain from <br />Marshan Lane to Park Court. <br />2. The installation of approximately 330 feet of 12-inch diameter trunk watermain, from an <br />existing line (from Well No. 6) to Well No. 3. <br /> <br />With the watermain construction along Lake Drive the City plans to install a 10 foot wide <br />bituminous trail along the same corridor from Marshan Lane to Park Court. The budget for the <br />project is $415,000. Funding for the project is provided from trunk utility area & unit fund, and <br />the parks & trail fund. <br /> <br />The proposed schedule for this project is as follows: <br /> <br /> City Council Authorizes Plans and Spec’s Feb. 26, 2018 <br /> City Council Orders Project & Approves Plans and Specifications April 9, 2018 <br /> City Council Authorizes Ad for Bids April 9, 2018 <br /> City Open Bids May 21, 2018 <br /> City Council Awards Contract May 29, 2018
