WS – Item 6
WORK SESSION STAFF REPORT
Work Session Item No. 6

Date: March 5, 2018

To: City Council

From: Jeff Karlson, City Administrator

Re: Code of Conduct Policy & Social Media Policy

Background

Attached is the Code of Conduct, with a few minor revisions, and a completely revised
Social Media Policy that would apply to employees, councilmembers, and other City
representatives.

The Code of Conduct provides that following each municipal election, the new council
shall adopt the Code of Conduct by resolution. The City Council reviewed the Code of
Conduct during the December 4, 2017, work session. There was general agreement that
the policy language was fine, but it was suggested that a social media component should
be added.

The attached Social Media Policy was drafted using the model policy from the League of
Minnesota Cities. It would replace the City’s current policy that was created in 2013.

Requested Council Direction

Consider placing both policies on the March 12th Council agenda for approval.

Attachments

Revised Council Code of Conduct
Resolution 18-22, Approving Code of Conduct
Draft Social Media Policy
