Consider Resolution No. 100
18-31, Receiving Petition Against a Public Improvement; ii. Consider Resolution No. 18-32, 101
Ordering the Project, Approving the Plans & Specifications and Authorizing the Ad for Bid – 102
Brian Bourassa, WSB & Associates (City engineering consultant firm) reviewed the written report. 103
The first action is recognition of the receipt of a petition against the water main portion of the 104
LaMotte project. The street reconstruction project for LaMotte is going ahead as proposed. He 105
noted a portion of water main that will be installed (for safety reasons) at city cost. 106
107
Mayor Reinert explained that most cities don’t like to reconstruct roads without including sewer and 108
water. In this city, however, the residents called for a different strategy – people know what they 109
need and that may be a road and not water and/or sewer for instance. In this case the residents of 110
LaMotte have indicated overwhelmingly that they do not want water added to this project. 111
112
Mr. Bourassa added that, as the council is aware, there is another street reconstruction project 113
proposed in the West Shadow Lake Drive area. He noted that there was no petition received so sewer 114
and water will remain a part of that project. 115
116
Council Member Stoesz received additional information on the water for fire services that would be 117
included. 118
119
Council Member Manthey remarked that he is glad to see the system worked so that residents will get 120
what they want. 121
122
Council Member Manthey moved to approve Resolution No. 18-31 as presented.
