CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3C <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: May 14, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Appointment of Police Sergeant <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Curt Boehme for the vacant Police <br />Sergeant position in the Public Safety Department. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />Previous Police Sergeant William Owens was promoted to Public Safety Captain in April, <br />creating a vacancy in one of our Sergeant positions. At this time, staff has completed an internal <br />recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, and is recommending the approval of Mr. Curt <br />Boehme for the Police Sergeant position. <br /> <br />Mr. Boehme holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and has been with the Lino Lakes Police <br />Department for over twelve years. Mr. Boehme currently works as a Police Officer and performs <br />in additional roles within the department as a Police Reserve Advisor and Police Training <br />Officer. Boehme also previously served as a School Resource Officer and as a Task Force <br />Officer for the Drug Enforcement Administration. Lastly, Boehme is cross-trained as a <br />firefighter. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $38.60, which is step 3 of the union wage schedule. The union <br />wage schedule has five steps. With the Council’s approval, Mr. Boehme would start in the <br />position of Police Sergeant on May 15, 2018. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Curt Boehme for the Police Sergeant position. <br />
