CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Karissa Bartholomew, Human Resources Manager <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: July 23, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Appointment of Police Officer <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />The Council is being asked to approve the appointment of Mr. Alexander Hallin for the vacant <br />Police Officer position. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />There is one vacant Police Officer position within the Public Safety Department. At this time, <br />staff has completed the recruitment process, provided a conditional offer, and is recommending <br />the approval of Alexander Hallin for the position. <br /> <br />Mr. Hallin recently graduated from Alexandria Technical College with an Associates degree in <br />Law Enforcement and meets all POST mandated requirements to be a Police Officer in the State. <br />Hallin has over a year of experience as a Security Officer and has been a Military Police Officer <br />with the Army National Guard for approximately five years. Hallin is also continuing his <br />education and pursing a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. <br /> <br />The hourly rate of pay would be $25.62, which is step one of the union wage schedule. The <br />Police Officer wage schedule has four steps. With the Council’s approval, Hallin would start in <br />the position of Police Officer on August 13, 2018. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br /> <br />Approve the appointment of Alexander Hallin for the Police Officer position. <br />
