CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 6C <br /> <br /> <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Diane Hankee, City Engineer <br /> <br />MEETING DATE: July 23, 2018 <br /> <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 18-86, Ordering Project, <br />Approving Plans and Specifications, and Authorizing <br />Advertisement for Bids, 2018 West Shadow Lake Drive <br />Area Street Reconstruction <br /> <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br /> <br /> <br />INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />Staff is requesting City Council consideration to order the project, approve the plans and <br />specifications, and authorize advertisement for bids for the 2018 West Shadow Lake Drive <br />Area Street and Utility Improvement Project. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br /> <br />On August 14, 2017 the City Council authorized the preparation of plans and specifications for <br />the West Shadow Lake Drive Area Street Reconstruction Project. The project includes street <br />reconstruction, drainage improvements, and sanitary sewer and watermain extension. The plans <br />and specifications have been prepared and are on file at Ctiy hall. <br /> <br />The project construction start is timed such that a temporary by-pass road will be constructed <br />through the golf course as the golf season ends. The temporary road is needed to accommodate <br />the road closure needed to replace the large culvert between Reshanau and Rice Lakes. To <br />achieve this schedule staff is recommending Council hold a Special Meeting for the assessment <br />hearing on September 17, 2018, as outlined: <br /> <br /> City Council Order Project, Approves Plans and Specifications July 23, 2018 <br /> City Council Authorizes Ad for Bids July 23, 2018 <br /> City Open Bids August 21, 2018 <br /> Order Assessment Hearing August 27, 2018 <br /> Assessment Hearing (*Special Meeting) September 17, 2018 <br /> City Council Awards Contract October 22, 2018 <br /> Construction Begins October 23, 2018 <br /> Substantial Completion October, 2019 <br /> Final Completion May, 2020 <br /> <br />The estimated project cost is $6,200,000 which includes, construction, engineering and <br />administrative costs associated with the project. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />
