Park Board <br />September 4, 2024 <br />pg. 3 <br /> <br /> <br />DRAFT MINUTES <br /> <br />Mr. Huelman stated he would like cash park dedication fees. In the future, would like to <br />think about recreational opportunities and trails for the 2.7 acres. <br />Mr. Kusterman made a motion for cash in lieu of land. Mr. Gooder seconded. Motion <br />carried 6 – 0 <br />7. DISCUSSION ITEMS <br />A. Marshan Park Email <br />Mr. Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director stated a resident sent an email regarding <br />some homeowners who have expressed an interest in a volleyball court and horseshoe <br />pits for recreation at Marshan Park. <br />Mr. Kusterman stated he would like to take care of some of the things that need to be <br />done at Marshan Park before any other assets are added; remove the building and <br />adding a bench for a former Park Board member. He likes the idea of adding more to <br />Marshan Park. <br />Mr. Gooder agrees with Mr. Kusterman. <br />Mr. Kusterman thinks you need to conduct a neighborhood survey. <br />Mr. Huelman we have bigger priorities right now, but in the future, we could remaster <br />Marshan Park. <br />8. OLD BUSINESS <br />Mr. Huelman discussed the presentation that was brought to the City Council in late <br />June 2024. <br />Mr. Gooder discussed the August City Council Work Session and the conservation the <br />Council had. He stated the Mayor and Council were in favor of giving the Park Board <br />funding from the surplus. He also stated the Council seems to understand the struggles <br />the Park Board is having. What happens if we don’t receive more funding? <br />Mrs. Ballering discussed the pickleball courts not being used in certain areas and being <br />busy in others. Have to look into the age of the communities before assets are added. <br />Mr. Huelman stated we can’t keep adding assets to each park. He sees a lot of pickleball <br />and tennis players at Tower Park. He is confident City Council will provide funding in the <br />future. <br />Mrs. Cutts asked for the status of the new playground equipment at Birchwood Acres <br />Park and Brandywood Park. Mr. DeGardner stated Brandywood Park is completed and <br />installation at Birchwood Acres begins next week. <br />9. ADJOURNMENT
