Portions of the excavations may also <br />extend deeper than indicated by the borings. A geotechnical representative should observe the <br />excavations to make the necessary field judgments regarding the suitability of the exposed soils and to <br />evaluate for additional subcuts are warranted. <br />The contractor should use equipment and techniques to minimize soil disturbance. Loose or disturbed <br />sands should be moisture conditioned, if necessary, and surface compacted to increase their density and <br />uniformity prior to engineered fill and/or concrete placement. <br />C.2.b. Excavation Oversizing <br />When removing unsuitable materials below structures or pavements, we recommend the excavation <br />extend outward and downward at a slope of 1H:1V (horizontal:vertical) or flatter.
