CITY COUNCIL
REGULAR MEETING STAFF REPORT
AGENDA ITEM 613
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Diane Hankee, PE City Engineer
MEETING DATE: May 12, 2025
TOPIC: Consider Resolution 25-60, Approve Change Order No. 1, 2025
Street Rehabilitation Project
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority
INTRODUCTION
Staff is requesting Council consideration of Change Order No. 1 for the 2025 Street
Rehabilitation Project.
BACKGROUND
On February 10, 2025, the City Council awarded the bid for the 2025 Street Rehabilitation Project
to GMH Asphalt in the amount of $1,197,031.00. Construction of the project began with
replacing 39 gate valves due to age and corrosion. The City has been including gate valve
replacements on our annual street improvement projects since 2019.
While completing this year's project addition gate valve replacements were required. One was
an offsite valve that failed when being used to isolate a project planned valve. In addition, two
additional gate valves that were found during construction. Due to the contractor's willingness
to replace at the unit bid prices and an effort to address water leaks, WSB staff and the Public
Works Utility Department moved forward with replacements.
For Council consideration is Change Order No. 1 in the amount of $22,068.85 to repair gate
valves on Beaver Trail, the northwest corner of Fawn Lane and Birch Street intersection, and
southeast corner of the Fawn Lane and Birch Street intersection. The watermain work on this
project is funded through the Water Operating Fund. The 2025 Street Rehabilitation Project
contract with GMH Asphalt with Change Order No. 1 would be increased to $1,219,099.95. The
roadwork portion of the project is anticipated to be under the contract amount.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff is recommending approval of Resolution No. 25-60 for Change Order No. 1 in the amount
of $22,068.85 for the 2025 Street Rehabilitation Project.
