CITY COUNCIL <br />REGULAR MEETING STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br />TAFF ORIGINATOR: Meg Sawyer, Human Resources and Communications Manager <br />MEETING DATE: May 12, 2025 <br />TOPIC: Restructuring of Police Department <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The City Council is being asked to approve the restructuring of the Police Department and <br />eliminating the positions of Deputy Director of Police and Police Captain. <br />BACKGROUND <br />At the April 28, 2025 City Council meeting, Citygate Associates recommended restructuring the Public <br />Safety Department into separate Police and Fire Departments. Citygate also advised making <br />organizational changes within the Police Department, which requires removing the Deputy Director of <br />Police and Police Captain positions. <br />With Council approval, the Deputy Director of Police and Police Captain will transition to the role <br />of Police Sergeant as of May 17, 2025. <br />Please approve the restructuring of the Police Department and eliminating the positions of <br />Deputy Director of Police and Police Captain. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />None <br />
