CITY COUNCIL <br />STAFF REPORT <br />AGENDA ITEM 3. <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Roberta Colotti, City Clerk <br />MEETING DATE August 4, 2025 <br />AGENDA ITEM: Biennial Review of Council Compensation <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Lino Lakes City Charter states that the compensation for the office of Mayor and Council <br />Member is to be set in accordance with State Law. <br />BACKGROUND <br />City Code Section 203.01 Compensation of Mayor and Council Members, states that every two <br />years the City Council will review the salaries. It is recommended that the City Council review <br />the City Council salaries to be effective in 2026 in accordance with state law, city code and past <br />practices. <br />Minnesota Statute 415.22 states that the Council may set the salaries at an amount to be <br />established by ordinance and that the date must be effective after the next election. To meet <br />these timeframes, the ordinance would need to be ratified prior to November 4, 2025. With <br />the salary increase set to be effective January 1, 2026, or later. If there is interest in making an <br />amendment, a draft ordinance will be presented for first reading on August 11th. <br />REQUESTED COUNCIL DIRECTION <br />1. Council review of the Mayor and Council compensation as required by City Code <br />Section 203.01 Compensation of Mayor and Council Members. <br />2. Direction to staff regarding preparing an ordinance amendment regarding the <br />compensation of the Mayor and Council Members, effective January 1, 2026, or <br />thereafter. <br />ATTACHMENTS <br />1.
