ATTACHMENT B - ENGAGEMENT SUMMARIES <br />OPEN HOUSE 1 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Mapping Northwest Main – Open House 1 Summary <br />Date/Location: December 4, 2024, 6-8 p.m. at t he Rookery Activity Center <br />Format: Open House <br />Attendees: 70-90 <br />Purpose: The goal of the open house was to introduce the project and the planning process, <br />educate residents on land use and density requirements, and gather feedback on the <br />community’s vision for the project area. <br />Meeting Format : The open house was a come-and-go station concept with display boards, <br />a density activity, and a feedback map. Attendees were invited to manipulate density in the <br />planning area, provide comments on the project map, vision board, comment forms, and <br />brainstorm their vision for the area. <br />______________________________________________________________ <br />Summary of Feedback and Comments <br />Comment Themes: <br />A total of 72 written comments were received during the open house. The comments are <br />summarized by theme below: <br />Density or Design Preference – comments on the distribution of various density levels <br />within the study area and their design preferences for future structures. <br />• Preference for low-density and large lot sizes <br />• Preference for more open space south of Main Street <br />• Preference for different builders to develop the area, not just one or two <br />• Dislike for “cookie -cutter” developments where homes are built on small lots using <br />bulk and uniform materials <br />• Desire for housing structures to be three stories or less <br />• Preference for single-family homes over townhomes, apartments, or other multi - <br />family housing styles <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Community Impacts – comments on potential ways new development may impact current <br />residents or the existing character of Lino Lakes. <br />• Concern that new development will negatively impact existing residents by <br />increasing property taxes, contributing to existing traffic issues, and over-populating <br />local schools <br />• Concern that new developments will segregate the community <br />• Desire to minimize impacts and preserve Carl Street <br />• Desire to maintain Lino Lakes’ reputation and identity as quiet and nature -friendly <br />Development Idea – comments on visions and ideas for the study area that would benefit <br />the whole community. <br />• Desire for gathering spaces such as playgrounds, parks, sports facilities, and a town <br />center <br />• Desire for parks, trails, and a pedestrian bridge over Main Street to connect area <br />with the rest of Lino Lakes <br />• Desire for commercial spaces that accommodate retail and restaurants <br />Environmental Impacts – comments on potential impacts new development may have on <br />existing natural resources. <br />• Concern regarding development impacts on wetlands and water quality <br />• Concern that construction will impact bird migration patterns and eagle nests <br />• Concern that lighting from the new development will reduce night sky visibility and <br />cause light pollution <br />MAPPING NORTHWEST MAIN - MAIN STREET MASTER PLAN <br />AUGUST 25, 2025 INDEX | 45Page 99 of 171
