Environmental Memo
To:Katie Larsen, City Planner
From:Tom Hoffman, Environmental CoordinatorTom Hoffman, Environmental Coordinator
Date:September 2, 2025
Re: Environmental Comments – Lake Ameila Woods Preliminary Plat
Staff has reviewed the submittals and had recommended the following:
1. Redundant erosion control where at 50’ natural vegetation buffer cannot be
maintained to wetlands, floodplain, or lake shore.
a. Erosion control should be spaced 3-5’ to prevent erosion and
sedimentation.
b.A buffer should be maintained along the wetland on lot three and the
proposed silt fence and grading. Current plan shows silt fence and grading
up to the edge of the wetland. This will most likely result in some
sedimentation and fill. To prevent wetland impacts pull back the silt fence
and grading to allow for a buffer.
2.Natural net erosion control blanket shall be used in all areas and called out in the
SWPPP
3.Provide MN DOT seed mixes for each type of proposed vegetation. Native weed
free seed should be used to provide pollinator habitat.
4.Site ultimately discharges to Wilkinson Lake, which is an impaired water body
within 1 mile of the project location. Wilkinson is not shown as impaired on the
resource map in the SWPPP
5.Tree survey and approved tree plan is the same from the original plat.
a.Update tree survey with current proposal
b.Tree removal should decrease significantly with the removal of the
stormwater features.
6.Provide energy dissipation at driveway culverts or provide storm calcs showing its
not necessary.
7.Provide impervious surface calculations for each lot within the proposed
development. Overall site is being shown at 0.98 acres.
a.Impervious calculations should include proposed accessory structures,
patios, and additional hardcover on the lot.
