• <br />• <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEMS 6C -i, 6C -ii <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Mary Alice Divine <br />MEETING DATE: January 23, 2012 <br />TOPIC: Local Road Improvement Program Grant Applications <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />BACKGROUND <br />In 2011 the State Legislature appropriated $10 million into the Local Road Improvement <br />Program. These funds are used to assist townships, cities and counties in paying the costs of <br />constructing or reconstructing city streets, county highways, or town roads with statewide or <br />regional significance. <br />Selection of projects in this account is based upon the following considerations: <br />1. Projects must be approved for construction letting by June of 2013 <br />2. The route must have regional significance <br />3. The project must correct a transportation deficiency and incorporate a safety <br />strategy as part of the proposed improvement project <br />The maximum award amount is $500,000. Based on the eligibility requirements staff believes <br />the City can submit an application for both the Lake Drive /Main Street signalization project <br />and the Birch Street/Ware Road signalization project. Applications are due by February 3, 2012 <br />and require resolutions of support from the city council. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve Resolution No. 12 -07 Supporting Local Road Improvement Program Funding <br />Application Submittal for the Lake Drive/Main Street Traffic Signal project <br />2.
