Wedel, City Engineer <br />MEETING DATE: April 9, 2012 <br />TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 12 -33 Approving Change Order No. 1 for <br />the Otter Lake Service Road Culvert Replacement Project <br />VO1 E REQUIRED: 3/5 Vote Required <br />BACKGROUND <br />On May 23, 2011, the City Council approved awarding a contract to Amt Construction for the <br />replacement of a failed culvert beneath the Otter Lake Service Road. The replacement of the <br />culvert was substantially completed last summer and the new culvert is now in place. <br />As part of the construction of the new culvert it was necessary to remove the existing guardrails. <br />During this removal it was discovered that the existing posts supporting the guardrail were <br />deteriorating below ground and could not be reused. It was therefore necessary to supply new posts <br />and a section of rail beam to reinstall the guardrail. Public Works did not have any replacement <br />materials on hand. The guardrail was reinstalled with new steel posts, anchors, and a rail beam by <br />the contractor. <br />The cost to replace the posts and rail beam was $5,450 which equates to 5.5% of the original <br />contract amount.
