SECTION 2: DEFINITIONS <br />2.1 Definitions <br />The following words and phrases will have the meaning as defined herein: <br />1. Absent without Leave. Any absence of an employee from duty, including any absence for <br />a single day or part of a day, which is not authorized by a specific leave of absence or <br />time off under the provisions of this policy. <br />2. Administrative Leave. Paid leave granted to an employee, who is the subject of an <br />investigation, when the City Administrator determines it is in the best interest of City <br />employees and the public that the employee be removed from duty until the investigation <br />is complete. <br />3. Anniversary Date. The month and day of initial hiring or promotion of a regular full -time <br />or regular part-time employee. <br />4. Child. A biological, adopted, or foster child, a stepchild, a legal ward, or a child of a <br />person standing in loco parentis. Child, for the purposes of Family Medical Leave, will <br />be defined in accordance with 29 CFR 825.113. <br />5. Compensation Plan. A schedule of pay ranges for all job classifications within the City. <br />6. Domestic Partnerships. Employees may register a domestic partner with the City <br />Administrator. Domestic partnerships apply only to sick leave and funeral leave. <br />7. Exempt Employee. Executive, administrative, and professional employees who are <br />exempt from overtime pay as defined by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act. <br />8. Immediate Family Member. An immediate family member shall be defined as spouse, <br />parent, spouse's parent, child, brother, sister, brother -in -law, sister -in -law, niece, nephew, <br />grandparent of the employee or employee's spouse, and grandchild. <br />9. Job Classification. Refers to the act of assigning a position to its appropriate pay range <br />based on the duties performed and the responsibilities assumed. <br />10. Non - Exempt Employee. An employee who is not exempt from the provisions of the Fair <br />Labor Standards Act and is subject to overtime pay. <br />11. Pay Grade. A grouping of positions that are considered substantially equal for pay <br />purposes. <br />12. Pav Range. A schedule of minimum and maximum pay rates, which are established for <br />each job classification. <br />13. Job Reclassification. A change in a class of an individual position on the basis of <br />revisions to job duties and responsibilities, which places the position in a higher or lower <br />pay grade. <br />5 <br />
