SECTION 7: EDUCATION AND EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT <br />7.1 Tuition Reimbursement <br />The City encourages employees to improve job performance in their positions and to prepare for <br />advancement with the City. Toward this end, the City may share the cost of education to <br />improve an employee's performance or to prepare the employee for advancement with the City. <br />The City may reimburse regular full -time employees upon presentation of the final grades in <br />accordance with the following schedule: <br />Grade of "A" 80% of tuition <br />Grade of "B" 80% of tuition <br />Grade of "C" 80% of tuition <br />Grade of "D" 0% of tuition <br />Grade of "F" 0% of tuition <br />Grade of Pass or Fail 80% of tuition for "passing" <br />In the event that an eligible employee receives a grade of "incomplete," no refund will be <br />forthcoming until a final grade is earned. When the requisite course is completed and a final <br />grade is issued, the employee will be reimbursed in accordance with the above schedule. <br />The reimbursement shall be paid only for tuition, books, and associated fees required for <br />approved accredited courses. Charges for supplies, student union dues, student health coverage, <br />activity ticket, or other charges for which the student receives some item or service will not be <br />paid. The institution offering the courses must be accredited prior to the enrollment of the <br />individual for the individual to be eligible for tuition reimbursement. <br />The city may reimburse individuals for selected job - related, non - accredited courses at its sole <br />option. <br />No employee may receive assistance from other sources and receive tuition aid reimbursement <br />from the city for the same courses taken. <br />No reimbursement will be made without prior approval from the employee's department director <br />and the City Administrator. <br />7.2 Travel Reimbursement <br />Employees who are authorized to travel for work - related purposes may be reimbursed for the actual <br />cost of travel, meals, lodging, and other reasonable and necessary expenses. Eligible City <br />employees include regular full -time and part-time employees and elected or appointed officials. It <br />is the City's policy to prepay registration or out -of -state transportation costs whenever possible. <br />29 <br />
