b.A.R.E Essay
Mc Kendra Long
May 1, 2012
D.A.R.E was an informative and fun experience! During the program I
learned about tobacco, marijuana, alcohol and what they do to you. I learned how
to avoid them and stay alive. Tobacco comes with many, many consequences like if
you play sports and smoke you could suffer from shortness of breath and
dizziness. Smoking is the number one cause of lung cancer and there are 200
known poisons in tobacco. If you smoke, you could get addicted and not be able to
stop. Over 400,000 people die each year from tobacco - related causes. I do not
want to be one of those people. Marijuana has even more tar than tobacco and it is
also illegal in the United States. Marijuana users have an increased risk of cancer.
They also have more colds and upper respiratory problems. Marijuana gives you
breathing problems and affects your brain and body. It can cause short -term
memory loss and the inability to concentrate. Marijuana is also addictive. Alcohol
slows down the brain and body. Examples are: loss of coordination, slowed
reflexes, lack of self - control, slurred speech, and memory lapses. Too much
alcohol can lead to coma and death. It damages every single organ in your body. I
am smart enough not to get any of them near me.
D.A.R.E. taught me that nobody can force you to make bad decisions. The
program gave me confidence in knowing how to decline drugs. D.A.R.E. taught me
that a friend is someone who is trustworthy and honest and someone who likes you
for who you are. A true friend doesn't tell lies and threaten you or make you
