When I first learned about drugs in DARE it made me feel three emotions:
scared, sad and happy. It made me scared of the health problems and diseases
tobacco, marijuana, or alcohol might give me, especially when it said I might die from
using them. It made me sad when I learned about the people who die because of others
who use drugs, or when someone gets lung cancer by breathing in someone else's
smoke. It also makes me happy that I don't do drugs and will never use drugs in my
lifetime.
In DARE, I learned some skills that will help me make good choices and stay
away from drugs. One thing I learned was who to have as friends. All my friends
should be nice. They have to let me be myself and I should never have to change to fit
in with them. To reduce my chances of getting offered drugs, I learned to stay away
from people who use drugs and places these people usually go. If I am asked anyway,
I will say no. If they repeat the question I will say no again. I can also answer with
jokes, or just change the subject. No matter what, I will never, ever say yes.
Tobacco, marijuana, and alcohol are horrible for you. They can kill you or give
you bad diseases. People should never start using them because they will become
addicted. It is important to stay away from people who use them because they could kill
you due to their poor judgment or secondhand smoke. These facts make me feel
scared, sad and happy. I now know how to stay away from drugs and respond to
people who offer me drugs in the future. As a DARE student, I pledge to use all the
knowledge and skills I learned to never use drugs in my lifetime.
