PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS STREETS • Street sweeping spring and fall, during summer as needed • Street patching and crack filling • Catch basin and curb repairs • Install, repair, and replace street signs • Mow and maintain boulevard areas • Remove debris from roadways • Maintain bad vision areas such as intersections and curves that have tree branches obstructing view • Blade /grade gravel roads as needed • Prepare overlay project areas by sweeping, etc. • Address drainage problems including pumping flat areas that may cause damage to property and clearing small ditch areas • Paint crosswalks, city parking lots etc. • Provide assistance to other departments as needed such as hydrant flushing, repairs to city buildings, snow removal on ice rinks, trail plowing, etc. • Provide assistance for various events including elections, parade, block parties, Recycle Day, etc. WINTER - o Plow snow when depths exceed 2" or as needed (220 lane miles), clear intersections, etc. o Prune and trim boulevard trees (approx. 4,000 total, attempt 500 per winter) o Assist Parks Dept with trail plowing and rink maintenance o Repair off- season equipment PARKS • Maintain 18 neighborhood parks including mowing, landscaping maintenance, cleaning /painting picnic tables, sweeping basketball courts, emptying garbage cans, etc. • Prepare and maintain 12 baseball /softball fields and 14 soccer fields • Energize, winterize, maintain, and repair 15 irrigation systems • Install park benches, landscaping, fencing, etc. throughout parks and trails system • Plant trees, prune trees, remove hazard trees, stump grind as needed • Provide maintenance and repairs to park buildings • Assist youth sports associations with daily field prep (baseball), lining fields (soccer and football), placing goals (lacrosse and soccer), etc. • Inspect and maintain 25+ miles of trails including sweeping, mowing buffer, tree trimming, dogipots • Conduct playground equipment inspections and make necessary repairs • Maintain outdoor areas of Civic Complex, Centennial Fire Station #2, and Community Green • Assist Environmental Dept with blvd tree removals and replacement • Assist Utilities Dept with hydrant flushing and maintenance in spring and fall WINTER - o Maintain 4 hockey and 3 general rinks in the winter o Plow trails o Assist Streets Dept with snow plowing operations o Remove dead and hazard trees from parks and blvds o Remove invasive buckthorn and other woody material encroaching into park areas o Maintain and repair vehicles and park equipment
