CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM 1G
•
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Al Rolek
MEETING DATE: November 13, 2012
TOPIC: Appointing CliftonLarsonAllen LLP for Auditor Services for
2012 - 2014
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority
INTRODUCTION
The City Council reviewed audit services proposals for 2012 — 2014 at the November 5th work
session. After a discussion it was the consensus of the Council to retain the firm of
CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP, to perform the annual audit for the three -year period.
BACKGROUND
In September staff sent out Requests for Proposals (RFP) for auditing services for 2012, 2013
and 2014 to five public accounting firms. All of the firms perform audits for various
governmental entities in the Metro and Greater Minnesota areas. Four proposals were received
by the October 12 deadline. The responding firms were Abdo, Eick & Meyers LLP,
CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, HLB Tautges Redpath, Ltd. And MMKR & Co., PA.
In reviewing the proposals, staff found no significant difference in any of the firms' ability to
perform the audit for Lino Lakes. Each firm would provide adequate experienced professionals
to review internal controls and perform the audit functions, with the independence and
objectivity required. The other primary consideration is cost. Our audit cost for 2011 was
$40,300 with the firm of CliftonLarsonAllen. The proposed cost to perform the City's audit
ranged from $34,100 to $36,225 for 2012.
Given the City's experience with CliftonLarsonAllen, along with a savings of $5,520 for 2012,
it was the consensus of the City Council to reappoint them for the audit years of 2012 — 2014.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the City Council appoint, by motion, the firm of CliftonLarsonAllen, LLP
for the City's audit services firm for the years 2012 — 2014.
ATTACHMENTS
•
