• <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 4A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Chief John Swenson <br />MEETING DATE: November 13, 2012 <br />TOPIC: Hiring of Two Police Officers <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />The Lino Lakes Police Department is requesting council approval to hire two police officers. <br />These two police officer positions will backfill two officer position openings. The police <br />department sworn positions will remain at 25. <br />BACKGROUND <br />On July 30, 2012, Officer Brandon Young retired and Officer Tim Noll has tendered his <br />resignation effective November 19, 2012. <br />• The police department has been engaged in a police officer hiring process to fill the vacancy <br />created by the retirement. This hiring process included: <br />1. Application/Experience Scoring (68 Applicants) <br />2. Written Exercise Scoring <br />3. Initial Oral Interview / Physical Fitness Testing (20 Participants) <br />4. Supervisor Oral Interview (10 Participants) <br />5. Background Investigation (3 Participants) <br />6. Medical Examination <br />7. Psychological Examination <br />This hiring process has been extensive and has identified officer candidates that will continue <br />the proud tradition of providing high quality public safety services. <br />The 2012 Approved and 2013 Requested Police Department budget is funded for 25 sworn <br />positions. The hiring of two officers will maintain the police department at 25 sworn positions. <br />Approval of this request will not result in an increase to personnel cost for the police <br />department. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends the Council approve the hiring of two police officers. <br />• <br />
