CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA ITEM 3A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: Julie Bartell, City Clerk <br />DATE: December 10, 2012 <br />TOPIC: First Reading of Ordinance No. 12 -12 <br />Establishing the 2013 Fee Schedule <br />VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5 <br />INTRODUCTION <br />In order to provide for a more efficient and timely method of reviewing and adjusting the various <br />fees charged by the City, fees are consolidated into one schedule to be reviewed and adopted on <br />an annual basis. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City's current fee schedule has been circulated to department directors with a request to <br />update or amend the schedule as appropriate for 2013. <br />Ordinance No. 12 -12 (the proposed 2013 Fee Schedule) is attached. Recommended amendments <br />to the ordinance are printed in red. The changes proposed for 2013 are outlined below for your <br />review: <br />Removal of obsolete charges — Staff has reviewed the fee schedule for items that are <br />no longer needed or appropriate. <br />Building Permit and Land Use Fees — Staff has adjusted fees to account for <br />inflationary increases; they are generally consistent with neighboring cities. Other <br />non - monetary changes have been made for formatting purposes. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />The council approved first reading of the ordinance on November 26, 2012. The 2013 Fee <br />Schedule Ordinance is now presented for council consideration of second reading and final <br />adoption. <br />
