•
•
•
AGENDA ITEM 3 B
STAFF MEMBER Daniel Tesch, Director of Administration
DATE 24 October 2005
SUBJECT Crime Prevention Specialist
VOTE REQUIRED 3/5
BACKGROUND
In September of last year, the city added a Volunteer Coordinator in the Public Safety
Department. Chief Pecchia has conducted an evaluation of the position and is requesting the
position be reclassified to that of a Crime Prevention Specialist. Not only does this better meet
the needs of the department, it also works towards one of the council's 2005 goals to maintain a
high level of public safety.
In addition to overseeing volunteer activities, this position would be expanded to include
coordinating businesses and residents on crime prevention efforts. Activities would include, but
not be limited to Neighborhood Watch, Park Watch, Merchant Watch, National Night Out and
McGruff House.
Karen Anderson, our current Volunteer Coordinator has perfoiined well in within the department
and meets the requirements of the new position.
We recommend this action be effective 1 November 2005.
OPTIONS
1. Approve the reclassified position.
2. Deny the reclassification.
RECOMMENDATION
Number One.
