Please find herein bullet points as they relate to the Chief of Police search. • The city received 23 applications for this position. • The City Administrator and I have evaluated the applications and narrowed the number of applicants to 10. • It has been recommended that a search committee be created and made up of myself, the City Administrator, an outside law enforcement official and 2 council members to further narrow the field of candidates. • We have solicited input from police rank and file as to the qualities they would like to see in a new chief, as well to get a read on the direction of the department. • The search committee will conduct first interviews the week of January 17th. This committee will make a recommendation to the full council with a list of 3 -4 finalists for a final interview. • The Council will make a tentative offer of employment to one candidate. • The candidate will undergo psychological testing a physical exam and background checks. • Upon successful completion of the testing and background checks an offer will be made to one finalist. The Administration will negotiate the terms and conditions of employment.
