Blair, City Clerk
Date: February 11, 2002
Topic: Consider Request from St. Joseph Catholic Church
for an Exemption from Lawful Gambling License
Votes Required: Simple Majority (3/5)
Background
Non - profit organizations are allowed, under the State Gambling Statutes, to apply for an
exemption from lawful gambling license requirements for special events, provided they
make this request on no more than four (4) occasions in a 12 -month period.
Currently, St. Joseph's Catholic Church typically conducts four exempt gambling
activities each year. Each application is required to be considered separately. The
request before you is for a one -day bingo activity to be conducted on March 24, 2002.
Approval at this time will allow the church the additional time needed to submit the
necessary paperwork to the State Gambling Control Board.
Approval of this item is recommended, contingent upon completion of the background
investigation.
Options
1. Motion to Approve
2. Motion to Deny
Recommendation
Option 1
