•
•
•
AGENDA ITEM 4A.
STAFF MEMBER Daniel Tesch, Director of Administration
DATE 13 May 2002
SUBJECT Hiring a Full -Time Building Inspector
VOTE REQUIRED 3/5
BACKGROUND
The city's 2002 Operating Budget included the addition of a full -time building inspector to
our stall. The city advertised, reviewed and interviewed candidates. The consensus of the group
was to offer the position to Patrick Moonen. Earlier this year however, the state legislature
threatened the city with the loss of revenue we had already built into our 2002 Operating Budget.
Staff felt it prudent to hold off hiring any new employees until the state's budget crisis had been
resolved. We have since heard from the legislature, that cities can count the funds included in the
revenue portions of their budgets.
City staff would therefore, recommend the hiring of Patrick Moonen as full -time building
inspector with the City of Lino Lakes. Patrick worked for the city last summer, and has been
working for us in a seasonal capacity for the past couple of months.
OPTIONS
1. Approve the Hiring of Patrick Moonen as building inspector.
2. Not approve the hiring at this time.
RECOMMENDATION
One.
