• AGENDA ITEM 7E STAFF ORIGINATOR: James Studenski, City Engineer COUNCIL MEETING DATE: May 28, 2002 TOPIC: Resolution No. 02-48, Receive Bids and Award Construction Contract, 2002 Sealcoat Program VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority BACKGROUND: Sealed bids were received and publicly opened at 10:00 a.m. on May 21, 2002. The results of the bid opening are presented below. City Council action is required to award a construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder. Contractor Amount of Bid Allied Blacktop $ 86,277.30 Pearson Brothers, Inc. $ 94,667.76 Astech Corp. $ 105,417.53 Engineer's Estimate $ 110,816.00 411 The low bid is approximately 22% below the Engineer's Estimate for this project. A copy of the complete bid tabulation is attached. Roadways in the project include both new streets that were paved about 2 or 3 years ago, and other City streets on a 5 to 7 year cycle. Based on the unit prices of the low bidder, the funding allocation is as follows: Funding Source Amount Sealcoat and Wearing Course Fund (newer streets) $ 41,262.20 Street Department- Contracted Services (5 -7 year cycle) $ 45,015.10 Total $ 86,277.30 The completion date for placement of asphalt and rock chips is June 30, 2002; the completion date for sweepings is August 1, 2002. OPTIONS: 1. Return to staff for further review. 2. Adopt Resolution Number 02 -48, receive bids and award a construction contract to Allied Blacktop for the 2002 Sealcoat Program. 3. Not adopt Resolution No. 02 -48. RECOMMENDATION: Option No. 2 - Staff recommends adoption of Resolution Number 02 -48.
