AGENDA ITEM 1 C
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Jean Viger, Deputy Clerk
DATE: July 8, 2002
TOPIC: Consider Application for a Block Party, Hunters Ridge
VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority
BACKGROUND:
The fourth annual block party is being planned for Hunters Ridge in Pheasant Hills
Preserve 7th Addition. The block party is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. and end at 9:00
p.m., July 20, 2001. Attached is a map showing the location of the proposed party and
the signed petition from property owners acknowledging they have been notified and do
not object to the block party. These property owners are indicated by the slant marks on
the map. Please note that Hunter's Ridge is not a cul -de -sac and that the plan is to block
it off at both ends. Currently there is nothing in the City Code that prohibits a block party
that is not on a cul -de -sac or dead -end street.
Both the police department and the streets division of the public services department have
been notified of the party. If approved, public works will provide barricades for blocking
the street and the police officer assigned to this precinct may stop by to visit the party.
In the past, the City Council has encouraged these parties as it presents an opportunity for
neighbors to get acquainted with one another. These parties also create the opportunity to
form a neighborhood crime watch unit.
OPTIONS:
1. Adopt a motion approving the block party.
2. Deny the application for the block party.
RECOMMENDATION:
Option No. 1
