Background 6 <br /> <br /> City of Lino Lakes, Minnesota – Water and Sewer Rate Study Update <br />3. Background <br />The City of Lino Lakes, which is located approximately 20 miles north of St. <br />Paul in southeastern Anoka County, prov ides approximately 4,175 residential, <br />commercial, industrial, and institutio nal customers with water and sewer <br />services. The City encompasses approxima tely 33 square miles and had a 2010 <br />Census population of 20,216 and an est imated 2011 population slightly higher <br />at 20,505. <br /> <br />Currently, the City obtains its water s upply from four raw water wells. Water <br />storage for consistent pressure and for fi re protection occurs in two elevated <br />storage towers. <br /> <br />Wastewater treatment is provided by the Metropolitan Waste Control <br />Commission. Collection is accomplished through a series of trunk lines that <br />empty into one of nine lift stations operated by the City. <br /> <br /> <br />Water Fund A review of the City’s most recent financial reports shows the Water Fund <br />Historical Information ending cash balance has increased sin ce 2009. The 2012 budget was projected <br />to result in an ending cash balance of $3,861,609, up from $3,432,696 in 2009. <br /> <br />Historically the fund has recorded positive operating income, funding <br />depreciation each year. <br /> <br />Revenues and expenditures for the past three years and the 2012 budget, as well <br />as the City’s current water rate sche dule are shown on the following pages. <br /> <br />
