Dolinar, Dean of Students Jody Josephson, Secretary <br />lilt American Heroes Day, <br />• <br />Rice Lake Elementary School <br />November 4, 2002 -1Oam and 2pm <br />On October 30. 2001, President Bush launched the "Lessons in Liberty" program and asked all schools to invite <br />veterans to speak about their experiences in serving our country the significance of Veterans Day: and the <br />importance of supporting the ideals of liberty, democracy. and freedom. He announced this "national effort to bring <br />together veterans and students all across America during the week of Veterans Day. to give our young examples of <br />duty and courage at a time when both are sorely needed." <br />On behalf of the student body, I invite you to attend the American Heroes Day program at Rice Lake Elementary <br />School at either 10:OOam or 2:OOpm on Monday. November 4th, 2002. The students and local American Heroes will <br />gather by the flagpole for a patriotic program to honor those who have served our country and community (veterans. <br />police officers. fire fighters. EMS workers. school district officials and local politicians). Please check in at the <br />American Heroes table 15 minutes before the program starts: The half hour program will feature a flag ceremony by <br />the Circle -Lex VFW color guard patriotic songs by the students. a Veterans Day message. and a reading by a <br />representative from American Legion Post 566. <br />American Heroes Day is the second of two special programs at Rice Lake Elementary School. The first was Patriots <br />Day on September 11th when the students learned how Americans show their patriotism with the flag. The <br />American Legion talked about flag etiquette and gave ever• student a flag. and the Rice Lake Girl Scouts and Cub <br />Scouts opened and closed the presentation with a flag ceremony. American Heroes Day is scheduled for November <br />4th to prepare the students for Veterans Day the following week on November 1 lth. In addition to the flagpole <br />programs. a veteran will speak in every classroom on American Heroes Day. <br />Thank you for attending this program and providing an opportunity for the students to show their appreciation for <br />your service to the United States of America and to our local community.
