AGENDA ITEM 6A <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: John Powell, City Engineer <br />COUNCIL MEETING DATE: April 10, 2000 <br />TOPIC: Resolution No. 00 - 41 - Approve Plans and Specifications and Authorize <br />Advertisement for Bids, Twilight Acres 1st and 2nd Additions <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />The plans and specifications for this project were ordered on February 14, 2000. The next step <br />in the public improvement process is to approve the plans and specifications and authorize <br />advertisement for bids. <br />The City Attorney has informed us that we will not have appraisals completed in time for the <br />assessment hearing. However, as noted on the following schedule, it is my recommendation <br />we proceed to obtain bids for the work and hold the assessment hearing: <br />City Council Approves Plans and Specifications <br />City Council Authorizes Ad for Bids <br />Open Bids <br />City Council Receives Bids, <br />Declares Cost to be Assessed, Sets Hearing <br />Assessment Hearing, Adopt Assessment <br />Award Construction Contract <br />April 10, 2000 <br />April 10, 2000 <br />May 5, 2000 <br />May 8, 2000 <br />June 12, 2000 <br />July 24, 2000 <br />It requires little additional effort on the City's part to obtain bids for the work and prepare the <br />final assessment roll. We will clearly state to the contractors that the project may be terminated <br />after the assessment appeal period. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Return to staff for further review. <br />2. Adopt Resolution Number 00 -41 approving the plans and specifications and authorizing <br />advertisement for bids for the Twilight Acres 15t and 2nd Addition project. <br />3. Not adopt Resolution No. 00 -41. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Option No. 2 - Staff recommends that Resolution Number 00 -41 be adopted. <br />
