AGENDA ITEM 6D <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: John Powell, City Engineer <br />COUNCIL MEETING DATE: May 22, 2000 <br />TOPIC: Resolution No. 00 -62, Receive Bids and Award Construction Contract, <br />Apollo Drive Phase 4 <br />VOTE REQUIRED: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Sealed bid were received and publicly opened at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2000. <br />The results of the bid opening are presented below. City Council action is required to <br />award a construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder. <br />Contractor Amount of Bid <br />Dave Perkins Contracting, Inc. <br />S. R. Weidema, Inc. <br />Midwest Asphalt Corp. <br />Engineer's Estimate <br />$183,117.50 <br />$217,195.05 <br />$234,481.90 <br />$233,985.00 <br />• The low bid is approximately 22% below the Engineer's Estimate for this project. A copy <br />of the complete bid tabulation is attached. The funding for this work is provided by <br />assessments to the benefiting properties. <br />It is my understanding the City Attorney will be having a "closed door" meeting with the <br />City Council on Monday evening to discuss the acquisition of the right -of -way for this <br />project. The City either needs possession of the right -of -way or a right -of -entry <br />agreement to proceed with the award of the contract. We cannot provide a <br />recommendation on award of the contract until the "closed door" meeting has been <br />held. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Return to staff for further review. <br />2. Adopt Resolution Number 00 -62, accepting bids and awarding a construction <br />contract to for the Apollo Drive Phase 4 project. <br />3. Receive the bids but delay award of the contract. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />A recommendation will be made at the City Council meeting on Monday evening. <br />• <br />
