Equipment: $10,000 <br />• Move to a Digital Format <br />Over the past several years we have begun purchasing DVCPro equipment. This is a new <br />tape format so it needs to be introduced in steps. The first step was to purchase acquisition <br />equipment, or cameras. The second step was tape decks to allow us to edit from the DVCPro <br />format to a format we could play on the channel. The third step is to purchase mastering and <br />playback equipment. This will allow us to tape, edit, and playback in the DVCPro format. <br />The first two steps have been initiated. We are capable of recording and editing in the <br />DVCPro format. We are now poised to purchase mastering equipment for the staff edit suite, <br />the production truck, and the studio. At the same time we will need playback decks and digital <br />control cards, for the routing system, in master control. <br />Cost: <br />6 DVCPro Edit/Record Decks $48,000 <br />1 Edit Controller $1,500 <br />• The Production Truck <br />Everyone is aware of our current production truck's mounting problems. Thanks to a $62,232 <br />grant from the Cable Commission and three years of saving on the part of the Media Center, <br />we will have enough to purchase a production truck by the end of 2000. We will not be <br />anywhere near our goal of having enough money to outfit the truck with new digital equipment. <br />The plan is to hold on to the current truck, as long as it is economically and safely feasible, <br />with the hope that we would eventually have enough money to buy new equipment. The <br />likelihood is that we will need to purchase a new truck before we can outfit it with new <br />equipment. In this instance, we would simply transfer the video production equipment from the <br />old truck to the new, and replace equipment as we could afford it. <br />Consideration has been given to keeping the old truck, in addition to the new production <br />facility. After weighing the truck's current condition and the cost of outfitting and maintaining <br />equipment in two trucks, it has been determined to be very unlikely that we could afford to do <br />so. While the production truck is arguably our most important production tool, maintaining and <br />and outfitting two trucks would monopolize resources that will be needed to provide adequate <br />field, editing, and studio equipment also. <br />In a perfect world, when we replace the truck, we would also upgrade some of the major video <br />production equipment systems. Additional DVCPro decks, a digital switcher /DVE, a digital <br />audio /video router and distribution amplification system, and digital cameras and Triax cables <br />would be purchased.
