Pecchia, Public Safety <br />Director /Chief of Police <br />DATE October 9, 2000 <br />TOPIC <br />VOTES REQUIRED: <br />BACKGROUND <br />Accepting Minnesota Department of Public <br />Safety, Office of Traffic Safety, Safe <br />and Sober Communities Grant Funds <br />3/5 votes <br />The Lino Lakes Police Department is requesting that we <br />accept the grant funds of $26,500 to participate in the Safe <br />and Sober Communities project for the period of October 1, <br />2000 to September 30, 2001. <br />This grant will provide overtime funding for officers to <br />enforce seat belt laws, child safety restraint laws, <br />speeding laws, aggressive driving laws, driving under the <br />influence and any other alcohol related offenses including <br />underage consumption drivers. The Lino Lakes Police <br />Department participated in this grant program during this <br />same period last year along with other agencies within Anoka <br />County including Anoka County Sheriff's Department, <br />Centennial Lakes Police Department, Spring Lake Park Police <br />Department and St. Francis Police Department. <br />OPTIONS <br />1. Accept the grant funds to participate in the Safe and <br />Sober Communities program. <br />2. Not accept the grant funds. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Option No. 1 <br />
